 Terraria Guide Part 1: Starting out

First off you start out in a unfamiliar sandbox minecraft-like game. At first I personally was really confused as to why you need a pickaxe to destroy wood blocks but an axe to destroy trees. And a hammer to destroy most objects you can’t interact with like background walls and dirt walls. I couldn’t figure it out, but if you’re confused just play the tutorial.

 

First you should break a lot of trees with the copper axe provided until you have about 200 wood. Then use 10 of it to make a basic crafting table, and click on it. You will not be able to make very many different recipes at first but the more things you collect the more you will be able to craft. Then start to explore a cave preferably a jungle cave because they are filled with ores.

 

IRON MINER

Then try to mine up as much iron as possible until you can make some iron armour and a few different iron tools. Then find your way back to your house or just log out and back in and you will respawn on the area you started in.

 

Now, go to your crafting table and use your stone to make a furnace. Then open up the weapons and tools tab in your crafting slot and click on the iron bar. Click it until it says “Not Enough Ingredients.” Then make an anvil in the first tab. Then in the armour tab if you have enough iron bars make a full suit of iron armour. Then go explore and find chests and things.

 

EYE OF CTHULU

This is the first and easiest boss. Look in surface caves until you find a brown spiky rock looking thing. Than kill as many demon eyes (the flying eyeball things) and get as many lenses as possible. Than combine them at the rock into a suspicious looking eye, and wait until the dark of night.

 

Now that it’s night press the eye and you will see the caption: Eye of Cthulu Has Awoken! Now, you will see demon eye slaves everywhere that don’t drop anything when killed. Then a massive eyeball will fall from the sky and zoom towards you. Note: fight him near the spawn point because you will die a lot! Once he has half health remaining he will turn into a mouth thing and will do increased damage.

 

Once you have defeated him he will drop “Demonite” or if you have defeated him other times you may receive “Crimitane”. Demonite is used in creating “Shadow Armour”, the “Nightmare Pickaxe”, “Lights Bane” and a few other good items for easy mode. Crimitane makes the tendon bow and the blood butcherer.
